How we research, source and date our guides.
Brisamo publishes 171 legal guides for foreigners. This page explains exactly how they are made, what we verify, and what we refuse to publish — so you can judge how much weight to give them.
Who writes these guides
Our guides are written and maintained by the Brisamo editorial team, not by the law firms listed on the site. No firm can pay to be described favourably in a guide, and no guide is sponsored. Brisamo is a directory — we are not a law firm and we do not give legal advice. Guides are general information to orient you before you speak to a qualified local lawyer.
Where the facts come from
Every country-specific guide ends with an Official sources section linking to that country's own authorities — the tax authority, the immigration authority, the bar association and, where relevant, the land registry. Those are the bodies whose published rules we work from, and they are the bodies you should confirm your own position with. We link them on the page precisely so you can check us.
How figures are handled
Rates, thresholds and fee ranges change. Where a guide states a figure, we do three things:
1. We date it. Figures carry a visible “last verified” stamp, and every guide carries a machine-readable dateModified that reflects when the source file actually changed — not a decorative date.
2. We attribute it. Figures are traceable to the official sources listed on the page, and where a rule comes from a specific instrument we name it (for example, a law or decree number and its date).
3. We mark what is unsettled. If a rule is authorised but its commencement or final shape is genuinely unclear, we say so rather than inventing certainty. A number that looks confident but is wrong can cost you more than no number at all.
What we refuse to publish
No fabricated reviews or ratings. Brisamo shows no star ratings and no reviews anywhere on the site — not for any firm, not on any page. We would rather show you a firm's verifiable facts than a score we cannot stand behind.
No invented statistics. The only platform numbers we publish are real and countable: 117 verified law firms, 13 countries, 24 cities, 171 legal guides, 5 languages.
No pay-to-rank editorial. Paid plans affect a firm's visibility in the directory, which we state openly on our pricing page. They never change what a guide says.
How firms are verified
Every firm profile is checked to be a real, contactable practice before it goes live, and each profile states the languages the firm works in and the practice areas it handles. Profiles are marked claimed or unclaimed: unclaimed profiles are compiled from public information, and any firm can claim, correct or remove theirs. To verify a lawyer's registration independently, use the bar-association link in the Official sources section of any guide for that country — we would rather you check than take our word for it.
When we get it wrong
Law changes, and pages age. If you find something inaccurate or out of date, tell us at [email protected] and we will correct it and re-date the guide. To correct or remove a firm profile, see profile removal.
The limit of any guide
These guides are general legal information for foreigners, not advice on your specific case. Laws change, facts differ, and the detail that decides your matter is often the one a general guide cannot know. Always confirm with a qualified local lawyer before you act.
